Tersec has implemented together with CityGIS a unique navigation system for emergency services that is now deployed in Brussels.
They came up with the tools assisting dispatching on an operational and administrative level. On-board computers in emergency vehicles provided the latest technologies.
The CityNavigator software directly receives the incident addresses from the HC100 center of the Brussel fire department.
This way the navigation automatically starts the guidance towards the incident location which allows a faster intervention time.
Integration of hydrants, aerial photography, intervention plans,.. on an intuitive touch-screen interface provides an unprecedented level of intelligence on-board of the vehicle.

In recent times route navigation assistance has become widely used. Even the emergency services make use of this new technology. However, these systems are primarily developed for the consumer market and are limited in their use. They can’t be integrated with existing systems used by Police, Fire brigades and ambulance.
Next to that, the quality of route planning leaves room for improvement. Maps are not accurate and up to date, and differ from the ones used in the Command & Control Centre for dispatch. Apart from that, route planning calculations in consumer products do not take non-public roads and bus lanes into account, and do not contain important information like locations of water outlets and hospitals, etc…
With this knowledge and our long time experience with geographical information systems for Command & Control systems for police, fire brigade and ambulance CityGIS has developed the CityGIS Navigator.
TERSEC develops custom developments for the CityNavigator for integration with existing (dispatch) applications. TESEC distrubutes the CityNavigator in Belgium. This navigator takes all necessary specific demands for emergency dispatch and routing into account and makes use of the exact same maps that are being used in the Command Centre.
Specific versions of the Navigator are available for users with specific needs.
Due to the modular structure these versions can be easily configured and extended. The CityGIS Navigator is currently operational in Antwerp, Brussels, Knokke, Genk, Zele, ... and many regions in the Netherlands.
How does it work?
The CityGIS Navigator runs on a normal in-car Windows PC. Therefore it can be used on wide range of hardware configurations. The Navigator can be integrated with other applications, like digital forms, attack plans of buildings and high risk objects. When a new incident is reported, the emergency center will designate an emergency vehicle to the incident. Upon this designation the navigation system will receive the data and automatically navigate the vehicle to the location of the incident, with the aid of vocal instructions.Specific overlays like water networks, electrical lines, ... can be activated on-demand.
